Not a great deal to report on my car recently; it’s been a rubbish month in regards to personal issues, but I’m still making the most of it with my MR2 in our surprisingly nice summer weather. It makes owning a T-Bar so worthwhile!
And of course the point of this blog post is to commemorate my MR2 reaching a nice big milestone – 100,000 miles! Admittedly, only 14,000 of those have been in my ownership the last (almost) 4 years, but it’s worth a mention!

Just a quick update with some bang-up-to-date images of my MR2. A rare sunny June weekend in the UK gave the perfect chance to spend a few hours giving it a quick clean. Enjoy!
With a fresh 6 months tax and a clean bill of health from the MOT centre, my MR2 is now back on the road for 2013!
As I’ve previously mentioned, this could well be the last year of my MR2 ownership. I wasn’t being completely honest when I said that an impending Impreza was the sole reason for me wanting to sell the MR2. Truth is, I rather badly damaged my back in ridiculous circumstances two years ago and the road to recovery is taking a lot longer than I envisaged.
As you can imagine, driving a lowered sports car with low profile tyres and heavy power steering is doing me no favours at all. Even now, driving on my short daily commute is getting tiresome, and I can no longer enjoy the MR2 as I once used to.
But enough of the sob story, I’ll move on to some real updates worth mentioning.
Just a quick update, and an apology in advance. I’ve been reconfiguring the website a little bit recently, and have merged the entire website with my blog platform. This means that the old ‘traditional’ design is no-longer present.
Fu**ing sh**ting c**ting bollocks.
It’s hard to put into words the feeling of anger mixed with sadness mixed with rage, but the sentiment above is a mild explanation of how I’m feeling right about now.
With my MR2 recently suffering from some rather nasty clutch slip (admittedly self-inflicted, thanks to the addicting nature of Santa Pod!), I felt it was the perfect time to implement some long overdue engine-related changes and modifications.
Since I’ve owned my MR2, the standard radio Aerial hasn’t worked. This is a fairly common fault with the MR2 aerial for some reason, and many either replace it with another Toyota item, an aftermarket solution – or just put up with not listening to the radio (the latter of which I admit to doing for over 2 years!)
Following on from my LED spree with my MR2 dial lights, I have now fitted some SMD LEDs to my sidelights.
When I initially decided to change my dial lights, I purchased both Red and Super-White LEDs as I couldn’t make up my mind as to which set to install. The Red’s seemed to suit the car better, so there they stayed and the Super-White LEDs became redundant. Until, that is, I remembered that the MR2 sidelights also accept 501 size bulbs and LEDs.
FINALLY!
After many months waiting in anticipation for the weather to start getting pleasant again, my MR2 has now been released from the clutches of storage and is back on the road!
In continuation of my previous post, I can now reveal that I have installed my Red LED lights and installed the dials back into the car!
Inspired by many other owners, and due to the fact I’m not using my MR2 – I thought now would be the perfect time to modify my MR2 dials.
I basically wanted something subtle but very effective, so I chose to add some aluminium dial rings and a carbon fibre overlay with 3M Di-Noc vinyl. I also decided to modify the standard (dull) lights and bought myself some LED’s, but these are yet to arrive through the post! Once they are here, I’ll add another blog post to record the results.
Among the MR2 community it is commonplace for owners to often replace old and worn interior parts for new – and this also applies to gear knobs.
Truth be told, the original gear knob on my MR2 was in fantastic condition for it’s age, but I just couldn’t resist purchasing a refurbished gear knob from Rhon over at the MR2OC. Rhon produces fantastic quality, hand-stitched leather replacements for gear gaiters, gear knobs and door cards.
[04/03/2012] EDIT: Unfortunately, I’ve made the decision to remove this Quick Release kit. As fantastic as it may be, I just can’t get used to the new driving position such a device creates. It brings the steering wheel far too close to me for my liking – and is something that I just won’t be able to get used to. However, I shall leave the information below intact for future reference.
With the onset of the 1 year anniversary of the launch of jdmr2.com just around the corner, and the fact that our website now receives more visitors than ever, I’ve taken it upon myself to upgrade the website for a far better user experience.
With the harsh winter months now upon us, and after having braved the last 2 winters in my MR2, I decided it may be wise this year to invest in a cheap dedicated winter car.

So, a few months back Toyota announced they were revealing their “MR2-based GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II” car. To put it bluntly, I think it’s pig-ugly. So I thought I’d see if I can improve it somewhat.

I hadn’t treated myself to any new goodies for my MR2 for a few weeks so I thought I’d just spruce up the interior of my ‘2 a little bit!
First things first, my Momo Boss Kit. I’d heard the official Momo kits for Rev3+ cars were quite hard to come by and rather expensive (…so they say), so I was more than happy to find this one from a fella on eBay for £30 posted:

Following on from my last post, the more keen-eyed of you out there will notice I’m currently using the crappy, default WordPress theme, but fear not – measures are currently under way to resolve this!
